USS Miguel Keith

The USS Miguel Keith is Expeditionary Sea Base which purpose is to support aviation mine counter measure, marine corps aviation, and special operations forces operations. The ship will assigned to operate to the US Seventh Fleet, in areas around Japan, Korea, Philippines, Australia and Guam. This ship supports a crew of 250.

The ship is named in the honor of Marine Corps Vietnam veteran and Medal of Honor recipient Lance Cpl. Miguel Keith. Lance Corporal Keith was an 18-year-old machine gunner with the III Marine Amphibious Force. His bravery has been recognized with many honors, including the medal of Honor, Miguel Keith Park which was dedicated by the City of Omaha in 1994, and this memorial plaza which includes a life-sized bronze statue of Miguel Keith, dedicated in 2019. In November 2017, Secretary of the Navy Richard V. Spencer announced the construction of a new ship to honor the young hero. The Ship was christened October 19, 2019.
